Overview

This course provides an introduction to revenue metering, along with complete application training to fully utilize the SEL-734 Revenue Metering System’s 0.2 Accuracy Class metering and advanced power quality monitoring and analysis features. Students will learn how metering data can be shared with other substation protection devices through innovative SEL integration technologies to monitor power reliability and reduce cost. Hands-on application and settings activities will show students how to perform customized control functions with SELogic® control equations, perform accuracy testing, and determine device connection requirements.

Course topics include:

  • Introduction to metering, meter types, classes, and standards
  • Four-quadrant recording
  • Power quality measurements, including synchronized phasors and harmonics
  • Communications capabilities and applications
  • Advanced metering, including transformer and line loss compensation

What You Will Learn

Attendees (in groups of two) will be introduced to basic metering technology and will work directly with the SEL-734 Revenue Meter in setting, communicating, and performing control functions for a variety of applications.

At the conclusion of this course, students can:

  • Communicate with the meter through the front-panel and serial port interfaces
  • Understand basic metering terms, such as meter forms and elements
  • Set the meter using acSELerator® SEL-5030 Software
  • Determine meter functions and settings to meet system monitoring requirements

Course Fee

Basic familiarity with SEL products and technology is recommended, but not required.

What You Will Need
  • A laptop computer with CD-ROM drive and a working EIA-232 serial port (software installation will be completed during the course; please ensure your computer has no installation blocks enabled)
  • A calculator with basic math functions.
