Overview

This course provides an introduction to the SEL-651R Advanced Recloser Control. The course will also cover basic recloser control functions, advanced capabilities, and application examples, including Automatic Network Reconfiguration, single-phase trip and reclose, and harmonic analysis. The course also includes introduction to acSELerator® Designer SEL-5031 Software for creating customized settings templates.

    • EZ recloser settings application examples
    • Settings for Automatic Network Reconfiguration

What You Will Learn

Attendees (in groups of two) will work directly with the SEL-651R Recloser Control, performing hands-on communications, settings, and testing.

At the conclusion of this course, students can:

  • Upgrade existing substation and pole-mounted recloser controls
  • Communicate with the recloser control through front-panel and serial port interfaces
  • Apply settings to implement Automatic Network Reconfiguration
  • Determine several protection methods based on course application examples
  • Create and use acSELerator Designer SEL-5031 Software Application Designs
    • Enable and disable protection features and settings in Application Designs
    • Apply SEL-651R EZ Settings Application Design
    • Set DNP Map using an Application Design

$650.00 (two-day course). Includes CBT 101 Pre-Course Training CD, course notebook, and certificate of completion.

Course Hours

Classes are conducted from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. Complimentary lunch and breaks are provided. Allow additional time prior to course for CBT 101 completion.

Prerequisites
Completion of Introduction to SEL Relays (CBT 101) Pre-Course Training CD or:
  • Basic familiarity with protective relaying, SELogic control equations, acSELerator software, front-panel controls, and SEL-4000 Relay Test System
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and set up a communication session using HyperTerminal
Who Should Participate
Utility and industrial protection engineers and power system consultants.
What You Will Need
  • A laptop computer with CD-ROM drive and a working EIA-232 serial port (software installation will be completed during the course; please ensure your computer has no installation blocks enabled)
  • A calculator with basic math functions
